If Microsoft Excel displays an error when attempting to open the exported file, or if the file appears empty, there are several possible causes. Please review the following.
Firefox web browser
Mozilla Firefox may not automatically generate the file in a valid format for Excel. The simplest solution is to use another browser, such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. However, if you prefer to continue using Firefox, you must change the default program Firefox uses to open .xlsx files to Microsoft Excel. Follow the steps below.
Go to the relevant report in Insight, click Actions, then click Export Data.
Select Excel and click OK.
Firefox will present a pop-up box about the file you are about to download. Under the "What Should Firefox do with this file?" section, if any program other than Excel appears (e.g. 7-Zip File Manager), you need to change it.
Click the dropdown menu and select Excel if available. If not, click Other.
If Excel appears in the new list, select it. If not, click Browse.
Locate the EXCEL.EXE program on your PC. This is usually found at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\EXCEL.EXE, but the location may vary.
πNote: You can also use the search function to find excel.exe, although this may take some time.
Once you have selected
EXCEL.EXEas the default program, tick Do this automatically for files like this from now on, then click OK.
Invalid data format
Check the data within the report. If you find any irregular characters, symbols, or emojis, the export will fail. Remove such data from individual fields, then try exporting again.
Export as a CSV file
Select the option in Insight to export the report as a CSV file. You can then open the file in Excel and save it in .xlsx format.
